I love color. Most any color. And I love to interject it into a space to create the unexpected. The one color trend popping up everywhere from cosmetics and fashion to home interiors is PANTONE’s 2012 color of the year, Tangerine Tango.
“Tangerine Tango, a spirited reddish orange, continues to provide the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward. “Sophisticated but at the same time dramatic and seductive, Tangerine Tango is an orange with a lot of depth to it,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Reminiscent of the radiant shadings of a sunset, Tangerine Tango marries the vivaciousness and adrenaline rush of red with the friendliness and warmth of yellow, to form a high-visibility, magnetic hue that emanates heat and energy.”” (taken from http://www.pantone.com)

Trendy ideas can be fun but I think there is always a caution to be found. Think back to the trends of years past which were beautiful (or we thought they were) at the time but became “dated.” While most trends will come full circle and start over again (1970s avocado greens, harvest golds, oranges), I’ll bet I’m not the only one who’s walked into an establishment and thought, “Wow, the 80s live on.” Or, “I’ve just entered the 1990s again.” And don’t even get me started on the old sponge painting techniques…
If you do want to go all out with a current trend color like Tangerine Tango, make sure you really really love it and want to live with it for a while. Or just plan on changing it out in a few years which is the beauty of paint. As much as I love color, I am pretty selective as to how much to use and where it goes because I want it to be more timeless and not outdated in three years. If such a strong color is a bit terrifying when painting a whole room, consider using it as an accent to add that element of pop and surprise without taking over the whole space.
